London - c1648
The panorama of London c1648 (below) is by Mattaus Merian from his 'Topographia'.
This interesting panorama shows London during the reign of King Charles II and
before the 'Great Fire of London' in 1666. It shows the original St. Pauls Cathedral,
London Bridge with houses and shops built onto it and the famous theatres (including
Shakespere's Globe)
of the South Bank and depicts a maginificent view of the Tower of London and riverside.

Saxon Kings
- c1645
This famous and exceptionally decorative map by Joan Bleau is instantly recognisable
for the two colums showing on either side, seven vignette portraits of early Saxon
Kings and scenes from the lives of seven later Saxon Kings of England.
The map depicts Britain as it was divided at the time of the English Saxons especially
during their Heptarchy'.

World Map
- Joan Bleau - 1662
This map is the spectacular fronticepiece of the great cartographic work of the
17th Century, Joan Bleau's Grand Atlas. Galileo overlooks the Western
Hemisphere, the teacher of Joan Bleau's father is depicted on the right, various
classical deities recline on the clouds and the Seasons are symbolised in figures
across the bottom of the map.
On the west of North America is the mysterious 'Island' of California.

World Map
- Claes Janszoon Visscher - c1652
A particularly fine map, 12 ceremonially attired Roman Emperors on horseback are
flanked by corner depictions of each of the Continents with native animals.
While the side panels feature portraits of the inhabitants of Europe, Asia, Africa
and America and show views of Rome, Amsterdam, Jerusalem, Tunis, Mexico, Havana,
Pernambuco and San Salvador.
